For several decades the Arolla campsite has been viewed as an ideal base-camp for hikers and alpinists. Directly from the campsite you can reach a lot of hiking and mountain routes.

Great hiking routes

Several well known alpine hikes go through Arolla.

On the Chamonix-Zermatt hike the campsite is the stop between Pra-Fleuri and Moiry.
For the Tour du Cervin (Matterhorn tour), Arolla is an important stop before crossing to Italy over Col Collon.
The campsite in Arolla is the stop N° 20 of Chemin des cols Alpins (Click on the picture to see the Swiss walking route N° 6).

Glacial hikes

Apart the summits there are also several glacier hiking routes in the upper Val d’Hérens.

The glacier hiking routes needs a good knowledge of high mountain. You need also adequate equipment.
Crossing of Plateau d’Hérens between Cabane de la Dent Blanche and Cabane Bertol.
Crossing between Cabane des Vignettes et le Refuge des Bouquetins ou la Cabane Bertol.
Crossing between Cabane des Dix and Cabane des Vignettes via Col de la Serpentine.
Route Arolla - Zermatt via Tête Blanche and Col d’Hérens.

You can also combine these routes to make a very nice 4 or 5 days glacier hike.

Le Lac Bleu

Lac Bleu is one of the most beautiful sites in Valais.

From La Gouille, a pedestrian circuit will take you after 40 minutes of walk in this idyllic place bordered of forest of pines and larches.

And you can enjoy to quench your thirst or eat in our bar restaurant La Gouille.

A unique experience

Huts near the campsite

 

Six mountain huts (shelters) are directly accessible from Arolla. You can make a stop (eat, sleep) in these huts for the next days hike or climb. These huts also make a nice target for a day’s walk.

The Refuge des bouquetins.

Unguarded hut. Access in 4h00.

Difficulty :

For very good alpine walker (glacier crossing).

The Cabane des dix

The Cabane de la Tsa

Access in 1h45 on an easy walking path. On the other side of the valley you see the Aiguilles Rouges d'Arolla.

WARNING there is NO ADVANCE BOOKING for pitches for the camping because the pitches are not predefined.

There is room for our guests, even without booking. To this day we have never refused campers.
You just have to come to the campsite.

But if you really, really, really (did I said really ?) want to be sure, you can always give us a call 2 to 3 days before your arrival.
